The last days have been very interesting in Jubany! The weather has improved a lot and we have been busy working in the Caleta.
This morning we said farewell to the members of Jubany crew who are heading back to Buenos Aires and beyond. However, we then heard that, due to the bad weather, the plane coming to pick them up could not land and so they would stay a little longer.
Today was full of blizzard and snow drift, very atmospheric but still not a good day to trek to our lake to do fieldwork. Instead Steve and I braved the elements to have a look at the lakes within the Jubany base area.
Besides the work we get to see a lot of wild life. This also means to watch out for Skua attacks from above, that remind of Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds".
Week Three...We are still in Marambio waiting for the Twin to take us to Jubany. It is still not repaired, so we have to be patient.
On October 22nd finally our voyage with the Russian ship Polar Pioneer from Mar del Plata to King George Island began. It would be longer than we thought before.
