Whales in Potter Cove... Video profiles... Christmas... Farewells, or not...
Last week we were able to work five days in a row. Every day the video recordings improved a little bit more and at the end of the week, we managed to drive the first video profiles from approximately 90 m to 3 m depth.

Christmas in Jubany
The last days have been very interesting in Jubany! The weather has improved a lot and we have been busy working in the Caleta.
First video images recorded
The whole Sunday afternoon I was thinking "Should I go out... or not?". The weather was just at the limit and some colleagues went out, but I decided not to go and wait for today. The forecast was very good, but when I looked out the window this morning, it was still windy and there were waves with crests on the cove.
Farewells...
This day was just another day in the row of stormy days that we are experiencing since I don't know when. But even without working in the cove, it gets hardly boring here.
Esperanza and Maria
Steve and I were on Maria duty again today (i.e. in the kitchen) and with the additional forty-seven members of Esperanza base we spent almost eight hours helping out today.
Goodbye, hello, penguins and seals
This morning we said farewell to the members of Jubany crew who are heading back to Buenos Aires and beyond. However, we then heard that, due to the bad weather, the plane coming to pick them up could not land and so they would stay a little longer.
Mateus and visits from Russia, Chile and Uruguay
Today, despite the grey, windy and wet weather, we were happy to continue and complete our work on Lake Mateus. We went back to the base for lunch and met members from the Argentinian Navy, plus our old friends from Bellinnghausen (Russia), Frei, INACH (Chile) and Artigas (Uruguay) bases for lunch.
News from Jubany!!!
We left from Mar del Plata on October 30th, and after sailing with the Polar Pioneer for 8 days we arrived at Jubany. It was a great trip, excellent weather and opportunities to see dolphins and especially a high richness of sea birds. We really thank and appreciate the chance to travel with Polar Pioneer!
