Week Three...We are still in Marambio waiting for the Twin to take us to Jubany. It is still not repaired, so we have to be patient.
Nobody can tell when we will be able to go to the Western Antarctic Peninsula... At least, these last days we have been exploring Marambio Island. The base is at the top of a table mountain and in order to get from the Base to the shore we had to walk and climb.
Geologically incredibly interesting, the floor is a thick layer of permafrost. There are all kinds of rocks, marine sediments and fossils everywhere.
Biological diversity is not easy to find near Marambio Base, but if you walk to the “Pinguinera” you can find seals, macroalgae and hundreds of invertebrates on the way which were drift to the shore. As it is breading season you can observe penguins with their eggs.
Luckily we have very nice weather, so that we can enjoy great views and spectacular sunsets from the outside.

Still in Marambio, Dolores? If it makes you feel better, I was 3 months and a half there, just waiting a flight. You will not be able to break my record, no no :D.
The best for your field work season in Jubany. Cheers, Gastón.

Dear Dolores y Oscar,
I feel with you, being trapped on Marambio ist not the trip you booked... But anyway, it would be quite interesting to analyze those Laternula shells, would be a good comparison with Potter Cove. And large fossile bivalve shells (Cuculaea and Eurhomalea) would be exciting, too...
Best, Tom

Hola Dolo y chicos! Que lindo blog with your fotos from the island in the middle of nowhere!
Are there really live Laternula on that beach? It seems so altho they are clearly subtidal species. Saludos enormes de todos aqui, doris
