At Jubany at last

Finally, after what had seemed half an eternity, we left Marambio. The Chilean Twin took us to Frei, the Chilean Antarctic Base. The flight was really nice and short. The view from the plane was spectacular; we could see amazing icebergs, colors and shapes from the air.

Once we arrived at Frei Base, the Argentinean “Castillo” Ship was waiting for us to take us to Jubany Station. In Jubany we met all our friends and colleagues, it was a great and emotional moment.

Settled in Jubany everyone started with their own sampling and laboratory activities which range from PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) and CTD (Conductivity, Temperature and Density) measurements, sediment traps, to macroalgae successional and photosynthetic experiments, phytoplankton and zooplankton sampling. All these activities are dependent on boats and diving logistics which makes the sampling experience very active and interesting in this distinctive environment surrounded by glaciers, icebergs and a unique biological biodiversity.

The group of people in Jubany station is very friendly and diverse. We are learning a lot and having a great time! We wish you a Feliz Año Nuevo para todos!!!! Feliz 2011, ………… and Enjoy!
